A Reverse-Chronological resume presents your work experience information from your most recent job to your oldest job. Your newest jobs will most likely be your most relevant -- ultimately being the experience your potential new employer will be looking at most. Reverse-Chronological resumes showcase promotions and advancements in your career.
Personally, I work at a Major League Baseball arena for three years as a sales associate; from there I was promoted to the Accounting Intern. Having this promotion in reverse-chronological order listed on my resume will show future employers how my hard work and dedication as a sales associate landed me a full-time internship!Â
Reverse-Chronological resumes are best for mid-level applicants that are wanting to advance their current career, but it is best not to use this technique if you have career history gaps (long length of times without employment), changing your career path, or frequently switch jobs.Â
The sample resume is an example of a resume a sales associate would have if wanting to apply for another sales associate job or wanting to advance their career maybe as a store manager. As you can see in the example, this sales associate has their two retail experiences listed in reverse-chronological order. This also displays that they worked for these companies for numerous years (indicating they are a loyal employee and does not 'job hop'). Under each employment history, there is a description of what the job entailed.Â
I personally believe it is best to cater the resume to each job you apply for. By this, when adding the description of the job, add the 'duties' that pertain the most to the job you are applying for! This will showcase how your previous experiences can help further your career!
